Recipient of an unprecedented DOUBLE GOLD MEDAL for his double-bass entry in the 2018 Violin Society of America Makers Competition, Christopher Savino has been making fine stringed instruments for nearly 40 years. He began his career as a luthier in Cleveland, OH in the shop of H. Roth and Peter Horn. In 1982, Chris moved to Denton, TX to study jazz guitar at the University of North Texas. While in Denton, he opened his own shop where he made violins and guitars for 19 years. Since 2001, Chris has made instruments exclusively for Robertson & Sons. Savino basses are played by professional musicians in such major orchestras as the Helsinki and Christiansand Symphonies, and by aspiring bassists in some of our nation’s top conservatories.

PHOTO: Very closely modeled after the highly-coveted bass made by Oreste Cavalini and owned by the world-renowned Curtis Institute for many years, this bold model is very player-friendly and deceptively smaller than its stance. Tonally, it has characteristics undeniably similar to the original: extremely powerful with excellent projection, great core and dimension, and a wide dynamic range with a quick, punchy response.
